1. Editorial

Dear reader,

Did you know that buildings are still responsible for approximately 40% of energy consumption in the EU? Since about 75% of buildings are energy inefficient, retrofitting them would be a great option to make them use less energy. Find out how OptEEmAL contributes to tackle this problem with our new video

And we have some more good news! The OptEEmAL platform prototype is ready to be tested using real district data, which we have gotten from Cuatro de Marzo, located in Valladolid, Spain. To witness the actual implementation of retrofitting measures, you can follow what’s happening in San Sebastián, one of our demo sites. They have already started the planning and implementation of the retrofitting actions recommended by the platform. Read more in our focus topic.

Curious to see how the OptEEmAL Platform works? Then do not miss our conference “The OptEEmAL Solution for Energy Efficient District Retrofitting” on November 15th, 2018 at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona! You will have the chance to take part in the first public live demonstration of the OptEEmAL platform prototype. And if you would like to get an even deeper insight into the functioning of the platform, be part of our official OptEEmAL Energy Efficiency and Technical Trainings that will take place in January and February 2019!

Discover more interesting project news and upcoming events in this newsletter edition.

We wish you an inspiring read,

2. In the focus: Implementing the OptEEmAL solutions

The OptEEmAL platform prototype is ready to be demonstrated practical examples: Curious about our case studies and demo sites!
Our platform prototype was successfully presented at our 2nd Review Meeting in Brussels in April. Putting together all the modules of the platform has been challenging, but we have now done it and want to share some insights with you on how the prototype is working. Serhat from ARGEDOR and Marco from EXPERT SYSTEM have answered a few questions to shed light on how our partners build this innovative tool and all the great work behind platform. The next steps will be to have our demo site partners DTTN, FSS and LUND test the platform under real environment conditions. We are excited!

Visit to our OptEEmAL Demo Site in San Sebastián
Soon, you can get a first look at the impact of our OptEEmAL platform for district retrofitting projects. San Sebastián, as one of our OptEEmAL demo sites, has started the planning and implementation of the retrofitting actions recommended by the OptEEmAL platform.

3. Project News

First OptEEmAL video available!
OptEEmAL has published a video about its Optimised Energy Efficient Design Platform that facilitates retrofitting of buildings and districts. The platform is able to design energy efficient retrofitting projects that are based on different energy conservation measures to improve the performance of a district. The tool will reduce time delivery and uncertainties and result in improved solutions when compared to business-as-usual practices. Watch the video here.

New OptEEmAL flyer on retrofitting solutions!
The OptEEmAL project has taken a great leap forward since the start and the project partners are working towards the implementation of the first retrofitting measures in the demo sites. General and technical trainings to learn how to use the OptEEmAL platform will be implemented in each of the cities. Get to know our demo sites and what innovative solutions they are implementing. Have a look at our flyer and a preview at the platform prototype!

Project Meeting in Anglet
During our 7th periodic meeting in Anglet, France, in October, our partners have gathered to advance the integration tests for the OptEEmAL platform and to discuss the upcoming work and events during these last months of the project. Among general and technical trainings, further project meetings and a number of communication activities, OptEEmAL will hold a conference at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2018 in Barcelona this month! (See upcoming events.)

2nd OptEEmAL Review Meeting in Brussels
During the 6th OptEEmAL Periodic Meeting in Brussels from April 25th to 27th, 2018, the OptEEmAL partners met with the EC's project officer and reviewer to present current project results and the platform prototype. On the last day, the partners participated in the exploitation workshop led by SEZ.
